The images in this section are a compilation of four different trips down under from 1993 to 2001. Australia is, by far, the favorite of all of our destinations. From the arid Western Australia we have enjoyed Fremantle and Perth. In New South Wales we have fond memories of Sydney as well. However, our favorite destination within Australia is Queensland and more specifically, the Reef, Sunshine and Gold Coasts. Take a journey up the Bruce Highway and pass the Glass House Mountains and head into the outback. You won't be disappointed!

The ancient city of Petra (from the Greek translation of Sela) is referred to in the Bible as Sela, meaning '"rock" in Hebrew, but known to the Arabs as Wadi Mousa, or "Valley of Moses."
Petra is also known as the Nabataean capital and was a rich and strategic location for the trading of spices and silver. The Nabataeans successfully survived the expanding empires of Alexander the Great, Egypt and Syria and was ruled by Aretas I, Aretas II, Obodas I and Aretas III from ~168 BC? to 62 BC?. During this period the kingdom covered most of what is now Egypt, Jordan and Syria and remained independent of the ever expanding Roman Empire until 106 AD when it became part of the Roman province of Arabia Petraea.
The Nabataeans are not mentioned in the Bible as they moved into Petra after the Endomites...the Endomites were decendants of Esau who opposed the Jews passage through this land during the Exodus.
The city of Petra, under control of the Ottoman Empire, was rediscovered in 1812 by Johann L Burckhardt, who disguised himself as an arab traveller as non-muslims were not popular during this time.
Petra, is noted for the filming of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." Where the Holy Grail was found in the movie...we can assure you that the main temple has no secret passages...sorry!
